Can your countertop dishwasher drain into a bucket?

Yes, for models whose instructions allow it. HAVA R01 and COMFEE CDC17P2AWW describe draining into a bucket. You still need a securely positioned hose, adequate collection capacity and a practical way to empty the wastewater.

A water tank solves only half the plumbing question

The clean-water tank supplies the wash. Used water must still leave through the drain hose. A bucket can make an otherwise awkward rental layout workable, but it adds an emptying task and a spill risk. “Tank model” and “no drain needed” are not interchangeable descriptions.

Draw the setup before ordering

  1. Identify the exact model. The CDC17 quick-start and drain instructions show a sink or bucket; HAVA R01’s brand Q&A also allows these destinations. This does not approve a bucket for an unrelated machine.
  2. Plan the entire discharge. Use the selected program’s documented water use, allow ample unused capacity, and begin with the container empty. Tank capacity alone is not a universal wastewater-volume specification.
  3. Secure the hose. COMFEE warns it can move while water runs and supplies a suction cup. Use the approved support method and a stable container; do not leave the outlet loose over the rim.
  4. Check the route. Avoid kinks and follow the model’s height limits. CDC17 specifies no more than 39¼ inches above its supporting surface.
  5. Plan emptying. The container must be accessible without pulling the connected appliance or spilling hot water. Follow the manual’s hot-water precautions.

Bucket or sink: which routine makes sense?

RouteMain advantageMain tradeoff
Approved hose route into a sinkNo separate container to carry and emptyThe hose occupies part of the sink area; the sink must drain freely.
Approved hose route into a bucketCan serve a location where the sink route is inconvenientYou must manage capacity, stability, hose restraint and every emptying trip.

If carrying the wastewater would be difficult, the bucket arrangement may defeat the convenience you wanted. Reconsider the appliance position before buying accessories. A neat photograph is not evidence that a hidden bucket has enough capacity.

What we are not recommending

We do not recommend a universal bucket size, an automatic bucket-drain conversion, or a hose extension for every model. Those decisions depend on the machine and installation. Keep wastewater away from electrical connections and stop if the route leaks or backs up.

Questions that come up next

Does a five-liter tank mean a five-liter bucket is enough?

Do not size the container from the tank label alone. Confirm the complete discharge for the program and leave ample unused capacity.

Can a tank dishwasher sit anywhere?

No. Drain routing, a suitable outlet, a stable support and access for filling still constrain its position.

Your next useful step

If this routine fits your kitchen, compare the tank models and their remaining installation requirements.
